TULSA, OKLA (KTUL) — Only on NewsChannel 8, State Superintendent Ryan Walters announced last week he’s planning to start talks about when President-Elect Donald Trump gets back in office, removes the U.S Department of Education, and puts the power back in states hands, what that will look like for Oklahomans.
Since gaining national attention for controversial education mandates, some believe Walters could be Trump’s pick for U.S. Department of Education Secretary.
NewsChannel 8’s Tanya Modersitzki sat down with Walters and asked if he’s eyeing the job in Trump’s administration.
“My focus is Oklahoma,” Walters said. “My passion is to make Oklahoma schools the best in the country and President Trump overwhelmingly won the election and overwhelmingly won the election in Oklahoma and won every county, so this is very clear this is what Oklahomans want for their kids. What they want for their futures is President Trump’s vision so we’re going to enact that. I stood there on election night, and I promised all Oklahomans I’m going to do everything I can to enact your will this is what you want for the future of Oklahoma and I’m going to be right here to make sure that’s a reality for you and we’re going to continue to fight for Oklahomans’ vision for their kids,” Walters said.
Walters said doing away with the federal Department of Education is the education reform our country needs.
